From the Shore: A New Beginning

From the Shore: A New Beginning

Welcome to the very first edition of From the Shore.

For years, sea glass has been much more than something I collect or turn into jewelry. It has been a reminder that some of life's most beautiful transformations happen slowly.

Every piece of sea glass begins as something ordinary. Broken, discarded, and tossed about by the waves. Yet over time, the ocean transforms it into something treasured.

Perhaps that's why I've always been drawn to it.

Growing up on Long Island, many of my favorite memories were spent walking the shoreline searching for sea glass. Long before Sea Glass & Sunsets existed, I was collecting these little treasures simply because they made me smile.

I never imagined those beach walks would eventually inspire a jewelry business built around the message of transformation.

Introducing Sea to Shining Sea

This month I'll be working on a special limited-edition collection called:

Sea to Shining Sea

Created in celebration of America's 250th birthday, the collection will feature authentic red, clear, and cobalt blue sea glass set in sterling silver.

Each color tells a story:

❤️ Courage

🤍 Hope

💙 Freedom

Over the coming weeks I'll be sharing the journey as this collection comes to life—from selecting the sea glass and sketching designs to creating each piece by hand at my workbench.

Why Red Sea Glass Is So Special

One of the most exciting parts of this collection is working with genuine red sea glass.

Red is considered one of the rarest sea glass colors in the world. Many collectors spend years searching before finding a single piece.

Every time I discover red sea glass, it feels like finding a tiny treasure hidden among thousands of stones and shells.

A Sea Glass Finding Tip

One of the questions I'm asked most often is:

"Where do you find all your sea glass?"

The answer is surprisingly simple.

Slow down.

Most people walk too quickly.

The best sea glass hunters aren't looking farther down the beach—they're looking closer at what's already at their feet.

Searching after a storm or during low tide can also reveal treasures that were previously hidden beneath the sand.

Treasure of the Week

This week's treasure is a thick, perfectly frosted piece of clear sea glass set in sterling silver.

Based on its size and smooth finish, this piece likely spent decades tumbling in the ocean before finding its way back to shore.

Now transformed into a necklace, it's a beautiful reminder that some transformations take time.

A Thought to Carry With You

What was once broken became beautiful.

Sometimes we don't recognize the transformation while it's happening.

Trust the process.

Thank you for being here and for joining me on this journey.

I look forward to sharing stories from the beach, behind-the-scenes glimpses from my workbench, and the creation of the Sea to Shining Sea collection throughout the month.

Until next time,

Heather
